So I went to the newsagent recently and brought a whole bunch of deep red markers, they're delicious, as they don't have that icky pink tinge so many other 'red' markers have and they allow me to practice my contradictive lighting style using traditional mediums rather than painting on the computer.
hope you enjoy.
So for this sketch I've used more black outlines, i've still elft areas where the shadows of the red defines itslf, but for the most part i've used black to define outlines even though i'm only using it as a midtone (for this style of art I'm using red as the darkest colour, rather than black.
Uni has started again, and with the uni comes the painting. So here is the latest update of my viking painting.
But that Isn't the only thing I've been painting, so here is another 3 images of te other painting i've been working on for uni, going through the various stages of it's creation.
I just lived through my very own uni student cooking horror. I was very hungry, and out of stuff that rational people eat, I had half a packet of raveoli left over, but i was too lazey to trudge over to the communal kitchen building, so i tried microwaving it in my newly obtained microwave (thanks Matt). It worked sort of, it was cooked, cooked like it had been cooked by someone who was incredibly impatient and wanted to eat now rather than wait for it to be cooked properly, but still cooked (it was warm and there where no crunchy bits).
Now all it needed was a bit of sauce, can't have pasta without sauce (or cheese for that matter, but I was out of cheese). So I looked in the fridge for sauce, nothing. desperate for a little flavour, I then began rumaging through the cardboard box that serves as a pantry in my room, i eventually found a silver packet of peaking sauce that was left over form a chicken burritos kit, now I know that as a general rule you should not mix sweet with savoury, but I reasoned to myself "how bad could it be? It's just flavouring" well to answer my own question, it was BAD. really bad, It was so epicly vile that i actually bothered to rinse of the sauce off the pasta in hot water (most people would have just thrown it out, but I'm not a starving artist/uni student for nothing you know). Even after rinsing it off, the after taste still lingered, so after eating about half of it, I threw it out.
I now had a new problem, the taste was still lingering in my mouth, it was similar to the taste you get from eating too much cheap gelatinous candy. So I quested for something to wash out the taste, at first I had dim hope as i remembered that I had recently purchased a 6 pack of whiskey and coke, but no respite, i had allready drunk them all. But the taste was still there. It was time for desperate measures, I eyed the bottle of pizza sauce sitting on top of my fridge suspiciously, then closed my eyes and took a swig. It was warm, and tasted like stale pizza sauce, compared to the peaking sauce it was an improvement, but only a marginal one. I'm definatley gonna go grocery shopping tommorow.
Well, technicly I wasn't dead to begin with, but I have been gone for a long while and so some of you might have been suspecting as such. anyway, what I'd been up to was incredible ammounts of holiday lazyness. Thats over for now, new semester at uni! And I'm feeling motivated, especially since I heard we're getting our own studio space and access to it 24 seven, think I might buy myself a swag and a pot stove and live there part time, like a weekday art hermit.
Been really busy lately, doing stuff, sleeping, working, car accidents, flies crawling into my head and dying, etc. But I did manage to grab a spare hour just now to work more on my painting, added things like clothing, armour, some basic facial features, hair, and worked out some more of the light direction. Enjoy :D
So i recently got a job, and it has allowed me to buy some nice big ass canvases, and an easle, sadly, it has also chewed up allot of my time, still today i managed to get started on one of them, nothing fantastic so far, just breaking in the main figures and basic shapes, and starting to shove in some light sources. once i've finished sticking on all the shapes I'll start to add details (and clothes).
still painting in black and white, not confident enough to use colour (plus the black and white paint pots i have are easier to use, i hate squeezing stuff outta tubes).
My Friend Rach asked me to paint a dragon banner for her castle themed ball that happened recently, after the ball was over I got it back. So now I have a nice big dragon hanging from my wall :D
You can also get an insight into the habbitat of an artist from this photo, my room is a tribute to chaos and mess.
Materials used: big sheet of canvas, blue yellow black and white acrylics, some brushes, and the kitchen floor.
I was originaly gonna post some oils i'd been playing with (cause i just brought myself some oil paints to try out), but it's still drying so i can't yet attack it with markers (it's been drying for a day and half now :S). So in the mean time I used my favourite medium ink, to make this picture of a samurai.
Then I scanned it and cleaned it up in Photoshop, 'cause my inking is pretty messy.
